Matthew 5:1–12
The most famous sermon in history is the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). The immediate impact it had on those who originally heard it was astonishment (see 7:28-29). Delivered in a calm, quiet, and deliberate manner, Jesus compared the blessed life associated with His teaching with the cursed life associated with the Pharisees’ teaching. Jesus introduced His sermon with eight blessings and eight promises, known as the Beatitudes.
